Dr Ammenwerth received her undergraduate education in medicine from the University of Essen in Germany, and a doctorate in medical informatics from the University of Heidelberg's Institute for Medical Biometry and Informatics. She also received a degree in habilitation in medical informatics from the University of Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology in Tirol, Austria.
